First Tee — Metro Atlanta Participant Opportunities

First Tee — Metro Atlanta doesn’t just get kids on the course, it offers them exciting opportunities for growth. With the help of our corporate partners, foundations and individual donors, we are able to provide a number of Game Changing opportunities in the form of scholarships, grants and special programs. These opportunities allow them to meet new people, express their hopes and dreams, embolden their academic achievements and perhaps play some golf! Descriptions, application dates and requirements are detailed in the dropdown boxes below.

In order to be eligible for these opportunities, you must be an Active Participant:

ACTIVE PARTICIPANT – Enrolled & participated in a First Tee Program Session in the previous 12 months (based on the date of the Opportunity’s application deadline) AND missed no more than 2 classes in any one of those sessions.

Scholarships & Grants

Gene Siller Memorial Grant – Application deadline: April 29, @ 5PM EST

The Gene Siller Memorial Grant was created by the Siller Family in partnership with the Georgia PGA Foundation and Pinetree Country Club members to honor Gene’s life and passion through support of junior golf initiatives. The Mission of this grant is to provide financial assistance to young golfers throughout the state of Georgia by supporting those looking to learn, play and compete in junior golf initiatives.

Hope Tee Shot

On Thursday of the TOUR Championship, one boy and one girl from the First Tee – Metro Atlanta are
invited to hit the HOPE Tee Shot, a unique tournament tradition that began in 2008. The young men and women
selected to participate represent the hope that continues to build within the East Lake and Greater Metro Atlanta
communities. Registration Form for 2026 will be available in March

Dr. Bryan Carey Memorial Book Scholarship – Application deadline: April 15 @ 5PM EST

In 2012, Dr. Kim Carey and Mrs. Sandra Carey established The Dr. Bryan Carey Memorial Book Scholarship in memory of their son, Dr. Bryan Carey, a caring physician and avid golfer. Two book scholarships in the amount of $250 each will be awarded to high school seniors who graduate each Spring and:

  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA in math and science courses
  • Attained Birdie certification or higher in First Tee — Metro Atlanta
  • Have active membership status in First Tee — Metro Atlanta
  • Have an interest in studying STEM subjects in college
  • Write a winning essay (250-500 words) expressing their passion for golf and STEM subjects

The application period opens March 1st and closes April 15th with winners announced in May.

Jimmy & Bopsy Gabrielsen Book Scholarship – Application deadline: April 15 @ 5PM EST

The Jimmy & Bopsy Gabrielsen Book Scholarship honors the founders of The First Tee — Metro Atlanta. Through the tireless efforts of the Gabrielsens, The First Tee — Metro Atlanta opened its doors May 2000. Since that time, the organization has brought valuable life skills training through the game of golf to thousands of Metro Atlanta area children. In honor of their dedicated service, two book scholarships in the amount of $250 each will be awarded to high school seniors who will graduate each Spring. Applicants must:

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater in their high school courses
  • Have attained Birdie certification or higher in First Tee — Metro Atlanta
  • Write a winning essay of 250-500 words describing their experience in First Tee — Metro Atlanta and the impact of the experience of his or her life

The application period opens March 1st and closes April 15th with winners announced in May.

Courteous & Cool Program

Social Skills for Modern Kids. First Tee — Metro Atlanta is excited to offer a new opportunity to our youth participants. The Courteous & Cool program teaches young people basic social skills such as manners, respect, and responsibility in a high-energy class. The goal of this program is to prepare children for the future and the social settings they will encounter.

Special Programs

ClubCorp Clublife Gateway Program

Beginning in 2021, Invited (formerly ClubCorp) sponsored 21 First Tee — Metro Atlanta participants as Junior Golf Members at various Clubs. Their goal is to not only share a love for the game with your junior golfer, but to give them the opportunity to connect with their members who will serve as mentors.
